What does "positive rate" mean?

It's an airplane term. It's short for "positive rate of climb." When the pilot takes off, the copilot watches the instruments to make sure that the ground is indeed getting farther away, then calls out "positive rate." The pilot then replies "gear up" and the copilot retracts the landing gear. (or if it's just one pilot they do and say all of that themselves) I decided to name my blog "positive rate" as a metaphor for the way my life is (hopefully) going, i.e. up. If things take a turn and my life starts to suck I'll rename it "nose dive" or something.
